It was nearly midnight and Sean hadn't come back. Scott was pacing, while Kevin looked out the window occasionally. Neither had any idea where Sean had gone, but they were both worried about him. And they had a good reason for it too.
Over the past several months, Sean Waltman had gotten himself into a heap of trouble. He and Joanie had been through hell together and Sean was paying for it while Joanie was enjoying her life. Little got to the woman and she literally drove Sean nuts. Kevin and Scott resented her for this. They had tried many times to get Sean away from her, but he always went back.
"You don't think he went to see her, do you?" Scott asked, stopping for a moment to look at his best friend.
"Doubt it." Kevin replied.
"Joanie is doing a live appearance tonight for an independent wrestling company." He added.
Scott continued pacing as he checked the clock every few seconds. He was getting irritated now. Sean had gone out, promising to return before eleven, but he was already over an hour late. Besides being arrested for domestic violence charges, Sean had been in jail for drugs as well but he was recovering now.
"You don't think..." Scott began.
Kevin cut his friend off. He knew Sean wouldn't do that, or at least he hoped.
"No, there's no way. He's been clean for almost three months." Kevin said.
Neither could be sure though. They both knew how easy it was to fall off the wagon. Sean had done it before. They couldn't rule that out just yet.
Waiting was making them both crazy. By one, Kevin had gone outside more than a few times to look for Sean, but he hadn't see him. Scott had tried his cell phone, but there was no answer each time he called.
Five minutes after two, Sean finally wandered in.
"Where were you?" Kevin asked.
"We've been waiting all night." Scott said.
Sean rolled his eyes upon hearing his friends.
"You sound like my parents." He grumbled.
Scott and Kevin noticed that he was sober. They were relieved by this. They had worried that he'd drink too much or worse, but he appeared to be fine.
"So, where were you?" Kevin asked, as Sean removed his coat.
"I was walking. I thought about going to see Joanie, but I knew she was doing that appearance and figured she'd be mad if I showed up there, so I just walked all night." Sean admitted.
"You could've come back to talk about it." Scott replied.
Sean shrugged. He'd talked about it enough. He didn't feel like talking anymore. It didin't make him feel better. He wanted things to be okay with Joanie, but he knew in his heart that they weren't. He loved her still and he thought she loved him, but he wasn't entirely sure. Most of the arguments were started by Joanie and usually she was the one to hurt him, but the police never believed that.
Sean sat down on the couch and closed his eyes. He wanted sleep now. He just wanted to sleep so he didn't have to think about anything. Kevin and Scott realized this, so they turned out the light and went upstairs to their rooms. The trio was currently sharing a house because it was cheaper and they were currently working together with TNA, so it was convenient too.
"Think he'll be okay?" Scott asked before going to his room.
"Maybe. We'll talk to him tomorrow. I think he's tired." Kevin replied.
The following morning, Kevin and Scott went downstairs to talk to Sean, but he was gone.
"Great, he took off." Kevin grumbled.
Scott checked Sean's room, but he wasn't there. When Sean walked in the door with Joanie by his side, the Outsiders scowled. Neither liked Joanie and they weren't too happy to see her with Sean.
"Hi boys." Joanie said, a knowing smile playing on her lips.
"What are you doing here?" Scott asked, without hesitation.
"Sean invited me back here. Hope you don't mind." Joanie replied.
Sean knew his friends were disappointed, but he didn't care. He wanted to talk to Joanie. Maybe they could work things out. It was a long shot, but he loved her enough to try.
Scott and Kevin were disgusted with Sean at the moment and left the house. They didn't want to be around Joanie. They decided to get some breakfast before going to visit with Jeff Jarrett, their friend and co-worker. Anything was better than being around Joanie Laurer.
"So, how was your night last night?" Sean asked Joanie.
"It was great. I had a lot of fun and the fans really had a good time too." Joanie admitted.
As usual, she avoided Sean's attempt to start a conversation about their relationship and where it was going. Instead, she started a make-out session with him that took away his will to keep a bit of distance.
"What's up, Jeff?" Scott asked when Jeff opened the door to his apartment.
"Come on in." Jeff said, holding the door open for his friends.
Scott and Kevin walked in and noticed a young woman sitting on the couch. They felt bad for interrupting their friend now.
"If this is a bad time, we'll go." Kevin offered.
"No, no. It's fine. This is my cousin, Lacy." Jeff said.
Another young woman came from the hall and joined Lacy on the couch.
"And this is her friend, Caroline." Jeff said.
"Caroline is dating my cousin." Lacy commented, without waiting for Jeff to introduce his friends.
"Ladies, this is Kevin and this is Scott." Jeff said, introducing his friends.
"The famous Outsiders." Lacy remarked.
"What have you told her?" Kevin asked, a smirk crossing his lips at the familiar name.
"Everything." Jeff retorted.
Scott laughed and Kevin smiled openly. There was certainly a lot to tell. The Outsiders had a long history together, even if they didn't use the name professionally anymore. They still considered themselves as such.
"So, what brings you here?" Jeff asked.
Scott filled Jeff in on what was going on with Sean.
"I'm not surprised. You know, you oughta introduce him to your sister." Jeff suggested to Scott.
"No way. Jessie's too young for Sean and besides, he'd never go for that. He's too hung up on Joanie." Scott insisted.
"Well, what about Nikki?" Jeff asked Kevin.
"She's involved with a guy named Chad." Kevin replied.
"Too bad. Both women would be able to woo Sean. He's so vulnerable right now." Jeff commented.
"What about your sister?" Scott asked.
"Kelsey might be interested." Jeff remarked.
"Well, call her up or something. See if she can come around and meet Sean this weekend." Kevin suggested.
Jeff called his sister and arranged a meeting with Sean. Kelsey was eager to meet Jeff's friend. She'd heard a great deal about all of Jeff's friends and was especially curious about Sean.
"It's done. She'll come this Saturday and meet him. All you have to do is make sure that Sean is home." Jeff said.
"Excellent." Scott replied.
"Hang out for a few?" Jeff asked.
He had noticed Lacy eyeing Scott and wondered if he should set them up too, but he decided against it. If Lacy was interested, she could handle that herself.
"Nah, I wanna get home and make sure Joanie didn't kill Sean or worse." Scott joked.
"This is not a joking matter." Kevin remarked.
But he and Scott laughed along with Jeff. The Outsiders said goodbye and took their leave with Lacy staring after them. When they got home, they saw Sean and Joanie making out on the couch.
"Time to go." Kevin said, interrupting them.
"Jealous?" Joanie asked.
"Hardly." Kevin retorted.
"I don't see you with a woman." Joanie remarked.
"I'd prefer you don't see me at all." Kevin retorted.
Joanie smirked as she stood up. She could take a hint and decided it was best to go without causing trouble this time.
"Coming?" She asked Sean.
Sean shook his head, but he walked her out. When he came back in, Kevin and Scott lectured him about Joanie. Then they told him about Jeff's sister.
"Sure, I'll meet her." Sean said, happy to know that he had a fan out there.
Scott and Kevin hadn't exactly been honest with Sean about why Kelsey wanted to meet him, but that didn't matter. Jeff did say she was curious about Sean, so that was close enough to being a fan in their opinion. And it certainly put Sean in a better mood. He was smiling and he couldn't wait till Saturday to meet Jeff's sister. If she was anything like Jeff, he knew he'd like her from the start.
