Kevin Nash and Scott Hall had agreed to be at Ringside Fest with their friend Sean Waltman. They would sign autographs and participate in a Question and Answer session with the fans. The event was scheduled to take place in New York and it was the first time the trio would be together in a few years. Kevin was happy that his best friends had signed on. It wouldn’t have been the same without having Scott and Kid around.
The weekend of the event, Scott called Kevin to arrange to meet him at the airport. “Kid’s meeting us in New York.” Scott told Kevin. “Great, I’ll meet you at the airport tomorrow morning at four.” Kevin replied. “Is Tam going with?” Scott asked. “Nah, she’s staying home with Tristen.” Kevin replied. “What about Lacy?” Scott asked. Kevin thought of his oldest child and smiled. Lacy was a grown woman now, but she was still his baby girl. “Well, I haven’t heard from her in a couple of days, but the last time I spoke to her, she said she might show up.” Kevin admitted. “Great, I hope I see her there.” Scott said. Kevin reminded his friend that Lacy was much younger, but Scott didn’t care. And Kevin knew that his friend liked her. He didn’t mind that much, but Tamara found it disturbing. Kevin had convinced her that Scott would be better for her than half the losers in Florida. Tamara finally saw things her husband’s way and left it alone, but nothing had ever gone on between Scott and Lacy.
On Saturday morning, Kevin arrived at the airport first. Scott showed up twenty-five minutes later. They boarded the plane at five in the morning. “When are we scheduled to land?” Scott asked. “In about three hours.” Kevin said. Both men decided to get some sleep while they were in the air.
Three hours later, the plane landed in New York. Kevin and Scott were escorted to Caroline’s Comedy Club, where the event was scheduled to take place. There was already a crowd, but that didn’t surprise Kevin or Scott. Both men were ready to greet the fans. Sean was already inside. “What’s up, Kid?” Scott asked. “Nothing, man…I’ve been here since seven.” Sean replied. Piper was also in the building and Jimmy Snuka had arrived right after Kevin and Scott.
As the trio of friends got seated, the employees of Caroline’s prepared for the crowd. They had already organized the room where the autograph session would take place, so they waited patiently for nine. At nine a.m. sharp, the doors to Caroline’s opened and the fans poured into the building waving tickets in the air, eager to see Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, and Sean Waltman.
Kevin, Scott, and Sean greeted the fans cheerfully, giving each an autograph and taking pictures with those who paid to have them taken. Scott kept looking around and Kevin knew why. “She’s not here.” He said. “How do you know? Look at all of these people.” Scott argued. “She’s my daughter. I know.” Kevin retorted. “Who’s he looking for?” Sean asked, having caught only the first part of the conversation. “Lacy.” Kevin replied. “She’s coming?” Sean asked. Kevin shrugged. “She said she would, but I don’t know. She’s been pretty busy lately.” Kevin replied.
Kevin’s daughter Lacy Lynn had recently graduated from college and was working full time for a computer repair firm. Most of the work Lacy did was online, so she kept in touch with her father by emailing him occasionally, but she was currently living in New York and hardly ever flew home to Florida. “She lives here. She’ll be here.” Scott said. Kevin hoped so. He wanted to see how his baby girl was doing. It’d been at least six months since he’d last seen her. And she’d told him about meeting one of his fan club members, but she hadn’t said who.
“There he is.” Lacy whispered. Liz looked to where her friend was pointing. “Thank God we’re almost there. I’m tired of waiting in line.” Liz muttered. Lacy laughed as she moved closer to the table. “I’m looking forward to seeing Dad again.” She admitted. Liz nodded. “I’m sure. Did I ever mention how lucky you are?” She asked. Lacy smiled at her friend. “You know, my Dad mentioned the whole Pappa Wolf thing to me. He was really amused.” Lacy commented. Liz blushed. “Yeah, well he doesn’t know why I call him that.” She reminded her friend. “I could tell him for you.” Lacy offered. Liz shook her head though. They finally reached the table and waited while some kids had their picture taken with the trio of friends. Scott hadn’t noticed her yet, but Lacy was sure that he’d be happy to see her.
Lacy had changed a great deal since she left Florida. She almost always wore black now and she always had a leather jacket. Back in Florida, she’d been accustomed to wearing softer colors. New York was different. And Lacy had adapted very quickly. She moved to the front of the table and waited for her father and Scott to look up. Liz was standing right beside her.
Kevin finished signing an autograph and handed it to the little boy. Then he looked up to greet the next fan. “Lacy, you made it.” He said. This prompted Scott to look up. “Hi, Dad…yes, I made it.” Lacy said. He grabbed her hand and pulled her around the table to hug her. Then Scott greeted her with a hug. “I’ve missed you.” He whispered. “I’ve missed you too, Scott.” Lacy said. She turned to Liz who was watching her. “This is my friend, Liz. Dad, I think you know her better as LilWolf.” Lacy remarked. Kevin smiled and nodded his head. “Yeah, I remember.” He said as Liz handed him her shirt to sign.
“Group picture…” Sean finally piped up. “But I didn’t…” Liz started to protest. “Nonsense, he’s my father.” Lacy remarked. She grabbed her friend’s hand and pulled her behind the table, purposely standing her next to Sean. Liz smiled warmly at Sean as Kevin waved the photographer over. He nodded and posed as the man took five polaroids at Kevin’s request. He handed them to Kevin and watched him pass them to everyone.
“Stick around?” Kevin asked. “Yeah, but I don’t think these people really know who I am, so I think I’ll play it safe and hang back.” Lacy said. “Just be here when I’m done.” Kevin insisted. “Okay, okay. I’ll stay.” Lacy promised. “Don’t disappear like you did the last time.” He warned her. Lacy laughed as she led Liz away from the table. They saw some of the fans staring at them now, but Lacy and Liz ignored them. They went out to the main room of Caroline’s and sat down. Then Liz heard someone calling her name. She looked up and saw Pearl standing behind her.
The women hugged and Liz introduced her to Lacy Lynn. “Nice to meet you.” Pearl said. “Likewise. Why don’t we all hang out.” Lacy suggested. The women went outside for some air. Lacy and Liz lit a cigarette while Pearl watched them. “So, do you live in New York?” Lacy asked. “No, I’m from New Jersey.” Pearl replied. “That’s great. Jersey’s really nice. I’ve been there once or twice.” Lacy remarked. “Liz, how’d you get here?” Pearl asked. “Well, I sort of came with my boyfriend, but I have no idea where he is and Lacy suggested I ditch him, so I decided to go for it.” Liz said. Pearl laughed when she heard her friend. “Yeah, we’ve got more interesting things to do, right?” She asked. Liz and Lacy nodded.
The women went back inside and got in line for the question and answer session. “You know, I never knew that Kevin had a daughter.” Pearl commented. “Well, that was my idea. My dad would have loved to broadcast this to everyone, but I asked him not to. It’s easier just being me without all the publicity.” Lacy said. “So, how old are you, if you don’t mind my asking.” Pearl said. Lacy smiled. “I’m twenty-two.” She admitted. She waited for Pearl to comment on how young she was, but Pearl didn’t do that. Lacy decided she liked the woman a lot.
The women finally got inside for the question and answer session. They grabbed seats in the second aisle and Lacy watched Liz taking pictures. “Hey, just wait till afterwards. I’ll have my dad pose for you.” Lacy remarked. Liz smiled as she put her camera down. “Sorry, I’m just excited.” She admitted. “Pearl, you’re welcome to hang out with us if you’ve got nothing to do.” Lacy offered. “Thanks, I’d like that.” Pearl replied. She wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to hang out with Kevin, but she was happy to see her friend Liz and she decided she liked Lacy a lot too.
During the question and answer session, Lacy decided to play around with her father. She raised her hand and watched the man point to her. She knew he’d kill her for this later, but Liz had suggested asking if they sleep naked and she was too shy to ask herself. “So, do any of you sleep naked?” Lacy asked. Liz’s face turned bright red and Pearl started laughing. Lacy saw her father smiling as he looked over at Scott who was smiling at Lacy. “Why don’t you come on over and find out.” Scott suggested. The crowd of people started laughing and Lacy smirked at Scott because she knew he was being serious.
Kevin decided not to answer his daughter’s question. Instead, he decided to get back at her. “Aren’t you a little young to be hanging around in a comedy club where they serve alcohol?” He threw back at her. Lacy blushed and then she laughed. She deserved that. She knew it. And it was all in good fun. She looked over at Sean and saw him looking at Liz, so she suggested they go up and sit in the front. Liz wasn’t thrilled with that idea and Pearl was fine where she was, but when Lacy got up and moved, the other women followed her.
Security tried to stop Lacy, but she flashed an ID and watched as they let her pass. Now several eyes were on her. People were wondering who she was and why she was allowed in the VIP section suddenly. Liz and Pearl followed her and sat down a foot away from the table where Kevin, Scott, and Sean were sitting. Lacy saw her father staring at her and shook her head slightly, but he nodded. She grumbled to herself and waited for the inevitable.
The inevitable didn’t come at first, but after Kevin, Scott, and Sean wrapped up the question and answer session, Scott stood up and waved Lacy over. She walked towards him and once again, she was stopped by security. This time though, he put his hand on her arm and Kevin saw it. “Hey, get your hands off of her.” He said. The room fell silent at the obvious anger in Kevin’s voice. “Dad, stop.” Lacy whispered, but it was a little late to keep things hush now. Everyone was watching them.
“Sorry, Mr. Nash.” The guard said. Lacy brushed past him and walked over to Scott. Liz and Pearl followed her. “Hey everyone, this is my daughter Lacy Lynn.” Kevin said. Lacy groaned, but Scott just smiled. “You knew he was going to do that.” He said. “Yeah, that was the one reason that I didn’t want to come.” Lacy admitted. “But you wanted to see me, right?” Scott asked. “Yes, I wanted to see you.” Lacy replied.
Sean grabbed the microphone and thanked everyone for coming out, while Kevin and Scott wrapped things up and led Lacy, Liz, and Pearl out of the room. Sean set the microphone down and followed them. When they got outside, Lacy followed her father to a Limousine that would take them to a hotel. Lacy and Liz both lit a cigarette. Kevin had reached the car and turned to his daughter. He stopped when he saw her smoking. “Hey, put that out.” He said. “Dad, please don’t start.” Lacy grumbled. “You know I don’t like you smoking. Now put out the cigarette and get in.” Kevin repeated his order. Lacy dropped the cigarette and stepped on it. Liz did the same. They climbed in the car with Pearl following them.
“Why did you start smoking again?” Kevin asked after he, Scott, and Sean had gotten in. “I don’t know. I just did.” Lacy replied. “Well, quit. Your mother will be very upset if she finds out about this.” Kevin said. Lacy ignored her father for the moment and stared out the window until Scott put his arm around her. “So, maybe we can have dinner at the hotel?” He asked. “How about lunch…I’m starving.” Lacy suggested. “Lunch it is then.” Scott replied. “Alone.” He added. Kevin laughed at his friend. “Fine, I’ll entertain her friends while you’re busy.” He offered. Liz suddenly wished she were somewhere else. Being alone with Kevin Nash was not what she’d had in mind.
At the hotel, Kevin took his daughter’s backpack and led Liz and Pearl inside. “I’ll see you in a while. Have fun.” He told Lacy. He kissed her cheek and watched her go into the dining room with Scott. “This way, ladies…” He said. Sean followed his friend and the two women to the elevator. They reached the room that Scott and Kevin had booked for the evening and led Liz and Pearl inside.
“I never knew that you had a daughter.” Pearl commented. “Yeah, Lacy didn’t want anyone to know.” Kevin explained. Liz and Pearl sat down on the couch and tried to get comfortable. Pearl was fine, but Liz was a nervous wreck. Sean sat across from her and tried to talk to her, but she was very quiet. He finally got her talking about how she’d met Lacy in the first place.
“So, how’s New York?” Scott asked after he and Lacy were seated. “It’s okay. I’ve been really busy, so I haven’t had a chance to enjoy the city.” She admitted. “Come on, you’ve been here for over six months.” Scott remarked. “And I work seven days a week.” Lacy reminded him. They ordered lunch while talking about this and that, the conversation very light. Scott mentioned her coming back to Florida, but Lacy changed the subject. “So, are you dating?” He asked her. “No, I haven’t had much time for that.” Lacy admitted.
“You know, we could’ve had something special.” Scott commented. Lacy frowned when she heard him. She thought of the last time they were together. “It just wouldn’t work, Scott. I live in New York and I work seven days a week. We’d never see each other.” Lacy argued. “We could make it work. I know how you feel. Don’t try to pretend that you don’t.” He said. “I’d never do that. I’m not like that, Scott. But I just don’t see how this would work.” Lacy replied. They ate lunch and continued to talk, but Lacy avoided getting too personal. When Scott suggested going for a walk, she reminded him of his popularity.
“We could take a drive.” Scott suggested. “We could.” Lacy agreed. Scott took out his cell phone and called the Limousine service that had dropped them off at the hotel. Twenty minutes later, Lacy and Scott left the hotel and got into the back of another Limousine. During the drive around the city, they talked some more, but Scott was getting nowhere.
“Listen, I know how hard things are for you, being out here. Please don’t try to pretend that everything’s great. I know you miss your dad and I know you miss me. And your mom is upset that you never call her.” Scott said. Lacy frowned as she thought of her mother. “I should call her right now.” She said, but Scott shook his head. “No, right now, I want your undivided attention. Forget everything else.” He replied. Lacy smiled as she looked up at him. “Please tell me that you still want me.” He said. “I already told you that I did.” Lacy replied. “Then let’s make this work. I want it to work.” Scott insisted. Lacy thought his suggestion over for a moment.
“Well, I guess we could try it.” She said. Scott smiled when he heard her. He moved closer to her and put his arm around her. Then he leaned down and kissed her. Lacy sank into the seat and returned the kiss. It was the first time they’d ever been this close and she was happy that he’d taken the initiative. She looked up at him a moment later and smiled. “So, will you think about moving back to Florida?” He asked. “I doubt that’ll happen any time soon.” Lacy replied. “Well, if you keep doing stupid things like smoking, you might not have a choice.” He warned her. Lacy laughed when she heard that. “I’m an adult.” She reminded Scott. “But you’re still his baby girl.” Scott retorted.
Liz had relaxed some, but she was beginning to wonder what had happened to Lacy until Lacy and Scott walked through the door. “Hey, how was lunch?” Kevin asked. “Great.” Scott said, giving Kevin the answer he was looking for. “She wasn’t smoking, was she?” He asked. Scott shook his head, while Lacy rolled her eyes. She looked over at Liz and saw that she was uncomfortable, so she sat beside her. “So, how was lunch?” Liz asked. “Sweet.” Lacy admitted. She saw Scott smirking and found herself laughing a moment later.
Kevin tossed his daughter a cell phone. “Call Mom.” He said. “Right now?” Lacy asked. “Yeah, she’d like to hear from you once in a while.” Kevin said. Lacy dialed home and waited for her mother to answer. “Hi, Mom.” She said. “Lacy, it’s great to hear from you. Are you with your father?” Tamara asked. “Yes, he’s right here.” Lacy replied. “So, how is New York? What have you been up to? Are you getting into trouble?” Tamara asked. Lacy laughed when she heard her mother going on and on. “New York is great. I’ve been working seven days a week and no, I’m not getting into trouble.” Lacy said. “And what about Scott?” Tamara asked. “Mom, come on. Why are you asking me about that?” Lacy countered. “Sweetheart, I know how you feel about each other.” Tamara argued. “Well, if you must know, we sort of hooked up.” Lacy admitted.
After talking to her mother for a few more minutes, Lacy handed the phone to her father and looked over at Sean. “You know…” She began, but Liz shook her head slightly, so Lacy stopped herself. Kevin hung up the phone and looked over at Sean. “Kid, why don’t you take Liz for a walk.” He suggested. Liz blushed, but Sean stood up and waited for her to do the same. He took her hand and led her out of the room. “Nice.” Lacy commented. “I take pride in doing that to him.” Kevin admitted.
Sean and Liz didn’t go far because Sean was afraid of being recognized outside, but he did sit with her in the lobby. “So, where are you from?” Sean asked. “Philadelphia.” Liz replied. “Cool. Philly’s a nice city.” Sean said. Liz shrugged. She didn’t think it was that great. In fact, she thought the city was horrible, but she didn’t say that. “It’s okay.” She replied. Liz and Sean talked for a while and Liz learned that he was almost as shy as she was. This made her feel a little better.
